Chief Director of Good Times, Franco first came to Norway in 2010 as a rafting guide & safety kayaker. In 2011 he landed in Voss, where he quickly discovered the incredible and vastly varied opportunities the surrounding nature had to offer. As an experienced paraglider, mountain biker, skier, whitewater kayaker and certified yoga teacher, he knew he could use his background in fitness to help others use their bodies to discover Voss the same way he did.
With over 20 years spent in the outdoor sports industry, he leads the team with a diverse array of knowledge and tools to ensure that the adventures we offer bring nothing but smiles, laughter, and a desire to learn more.
From a small Norwegian town, known primarily for its famous wool sweaters, hails team member Ruben. A natural born leader who has been in a kayak since the age of 14, there is no other place in the world where he feels more at home. Ask him why he loves the sport and he will tell you for the community and the thrill. But in his heart, his affection for water comes from its simple ability to take the paddler to some of the most beautiful, peaceful, and untouched natural places.
With a network of priceless paddle-buddies at his back, a fueling half-liter of yogurt in his belly, and a river of clarity flowing through his mind, Ruben displays a genuine desire to do nothing more than to share the one true love of his life with as many other people as possible.
A well-trained slalom kayaker from a part of Europe rarely explored by others, the team can always count on Miro to bring big smiles and high-energy, rain or shine. Believing in making every second of every adventure count, Miro is always ready to volunteer to send the first big jump, big wave, or big pizza slice of the day. Although his strong suit is in water-related activities, Miro happily tackles any outdoor sport as a chance to challenge his own set of skills.
Trusting that the sense of self satisfaction and accomplishment that comes with adventure sports helps builds strong minds, bodies and spirits, Miro looks forward to getting you out on the water with as much stoke as possible.
What are the qualities of a great Whitewater rafting guide?
Beyond just safely getting the group from point A to point B, a great rafting guide genuinely cares about everyone having a good time and truly enjoying the trip. Great guides understand the needs of their group and are willing to make adjustments to make everyone feel their best!
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The people I meet, the challenge of making the trip unique and enjoyable as possible and also the satisfaction of a successful trip and hearing customers having fun.
Also, I get to work with people from all over the world and they are people who are excited and passionate about their jobs!
What do you like most about your work?
It’s exciting and raw. It takes you down to your most primal level, especially when you’re on a Class 3 or 4 rapid. At that level, there is real excitement and more fun involved and when you come together as a team and work through a tough spot, there’s an awesome feeling of camaraderie and accomplishment.
What do you look forward to at work?
I look forward to coming to work knowing that I am an important piece of the puzzle.
As an MTB guide, I know exactly which trails are nice and which ones are awesome. I also know the conditions of the trails that can vary due to the weather conditions.
And what’s even better, is the inside knowledge of the area. There are some hidden trails that can be hard to find or off the beaten tracks that are not known to the greater public. I don’t mind sharing some of the local secrets with you, as long as you don’t tell everyone 😉
Why did you choose outdoor guiding as a profession?
Bringing people together is one of the things that a great guide really excels at. Outdoor guiding is a thrilling experience that brings people of many walks of life together. To make things work, people need to feel like a team, even if they’ve never met before. A good guide will know just how to break the ice and make people engage with each other, fostering camaraderie, and making room for new friendships to form.
What is your approach towards your team and operations?
My first step is to understand my team members as everyone’s work approach is different. Then I try to moderate a plan of management that allows them to work independently and yet deliver on time.
This method not only allows the team to work freely without someone breathing down their necks, but also allows me to supervise members who require it or are new.
I am extremely firm on ensuring that the deliverables are submitted on time and of top quality. I usually sit down and re-check the work to ensure no errors are seen.
